Two Together Railcard FAQs
How does a Two Together Railcard work?
A Two Together Railcard is a type of UK Railcard that offers discounted train fares for two people travelling together. Here's how it works:
Eligibility: To be eligible for a Two Together Railcard, you must be travelling with another person aged 16 or over. The two individuals must be named on the Railcard.
Discounted fares: With a Two Together Railcard, you can get a 1/3 discount on eligible train fares for both individuals. The discount applies to Standard Anytime, Off-Peak, Super Off-Peak, Advance, All Line Rail Rover, Caledonian Sleeper, Airport travel, Anytime Day Travelcard (subject to a cheapest fare of £22.60), and PLUSBUS Day fares.
Validity: The Railcard is valid for one year from the date of purchase. During this period, you can use it as many times as you like.
Booking tickets: To benefit from the discount, both individuals named on the Railcard must travel together. When booking tickets, you need to select the Two Together Railcard option and provide Railcard details.
Restrictions: The Railcard discounted tickets cannot be used between 04:30 am and 09:29 am Monday to Fridays (excluding public holidays).
Remember to have your Two Together Railcard ready during your journey, as you may be required to present it along with your tickets to the train conductor.
What is better: a Two Together Railcard or a Senior Railcard?
The choice between a Two Together Railcard and a Senior Railcard will depend on your specific circumstances and needs. Although both offer the same ⅓ discount, if split evenly between two individuals, the upfront cost of the Two Together Railcard will be less than the Senior Railcard at £15 instead of £30. However, the Senior Railcard allows for solo travel, which means greater flexibility in use, and hence the money is likely to be made back sooner with more frequent use. Not only this, you can purchase the Senior Railcard for a 3-year period for a discounted price, whereas you can only purchase the Two Together Railcard for a 1-year period. Ultimately, you should consider how frequently you are planning to use the Railcard, how often you would travel with your partner, and how long you would use the Railcard to decide which is the best for you.
